Sheffield retro: 17 of the best photos of long-serving pub landlords, their staff and customers

These pictures will take you back through the years to the 70s, 80s, 90s and noughties

Running a pub is never easy, but a good watering hole is so often the lifeblood of a strong community.

So let’s raise a glass to these long-serving landlords and landladies of years gone by in Sheffield, along with their loyal staff and the regulars who helped keep them in business.

This retro photo gallery features some of Shefield’s best-loved and most dedicated publicans from the 70s, 80s, 90s and noughties, some of whom spent more than 30 years at the helm.

They ran some of the city’s best-known pubs, including Fagan’s and the Kelham Island Tavern, and others which have sadly been lost to history, like The Wapentake, which was a cradle of Sheffield’s music scene.

Do you remember any of these landlords and landladies, and how many of the pubs pictured have you drunk at over the years?
