2. Explore the region’s links to Robin Hood
The Grave of Little John, Robin Hood’s second-in-command, can be found at St. Michael’s Church in the heart of Hathersage. While there is little evidence proving he is buried here, ballads suggest that he originated from Hathersage and settled there again later in his life. Lud’s Church, another Peak District spot popular with visitors, was known as a secret place of worship in the 15th century - and myths also claim that Robin Hood and Friar Tuck hid here from the authorities. 4. Visit Derbyshire’s ‘little Switzerland’
Matlock Bath is one of the most scenic villages in Derbyshire, and is a popular destination for people visiting the county. The village became a hotspot for significant historical figures after warm springs were discovered in the late 1600s. Lord Byron visited and compared the area to alpine Switzerland, and the nickname of ‘little Switzerland’ was born. There are plenty of things to do in the area - with the cable car at the Heights of Abraham a favourite among visitors. Photo: Brian Eyre
