Since lockdown restrictions were eased there have been multiple complaints of waste, including used condoms and toilet roll, being left at parks and green spaces in the city. Residents in beauty spots in the Peak District also complained of ‘unsavoury scenes’ near their homes with public toilets closed.

Public toilets are currently shut throughout the city’s parks and in other public places such as supermarkets to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

A council spokesperson said the decision to maintain their closure was made because of “hygeine and social distance challenges”. A date for when they may reopen was not given.

They said: “Due to hygiene and social distance challenges there are no plans to reopen toilets in parks at the moment.”
