The most common garden birds in Sheffield have been counted – and the results are in

Sparrows, goldfinches, magpies, starlings – the birds that visit British neighbourhoods are many and varied.

In January almost 500,000 people across the country spent an hour watching the birds that landed in their garden or outdoor space as part of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, recording nearly eight million birds in total.

The results have now been published for each UK county – and these are the rankings for South Yorkshire.
