Community raises £5,000 Sheffield's Bingham Park - with two weeks left to hit target

With a week to go until their Crowdfunder closes, a Sheffield community has raised 30 per cent of their total – and now they are having a final push for the target, with support coming in from local businesses and national sports organisations.

As reported by the Telegraph, Bingham Park Community Group is hoping to raise £20,000 through a crowdfunder to transform tennis courts at the park in Greystones after a meeting showed the ‘energy’ people in the community had for it.

They have currently raised over £5,000, and are now calling out for support from local businesses to help them reach their target with donation incentives – from social media advertising, to banners in the park itself.

Kerensa Hobbs, from Bingham Park Community Group, said: “We have been having amazing support from local businesses.

"We had a really significant donation from Porter Pizza in Sharrow, and we were hoping that it would encourage other businesses.

“We have put lots of rewards on for businesses, such as rewards for donating £50, all the way up to £500. So we have volunteers for the group running our social media and contacting businesses to try and get them on board."

The group was set up to enable the community to be involved in the re-development of the facilities in Bingham Park, including in decision making about what sort of facilities people would like to see in the park.

Some of the current amount raised has also been made up from community initiatives, including a cake sale.

Kerensa said: “The other really beautiful thing has been people fundraising on our behalf. Three teenage girls, Phoebe, Elouise and Alice, have baked a whole load of cakes and raised about £200. And there’s also two young brothers who have been selling bird boxes they have made with their dad, and they have raised over £300.

"So it is that kind of energy and passion that we have been really feeling from everyone.

"We might not have raised it all yet, but we have felt that the community has just been getting really behind this – and that is what we have felt really vindicated about. We feel like we have got this right and people are really excited.”
