We have looked at Helping Yorkshire Poundies, Sheffield RSPCA, and Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in Rotherham to show you 21 of the dogs in their care, hoping for a home this winter.
Some of these pups would love to sprint around Sheffield's parks and the nearby Peak District with a whole family, while others prefer to stick to resting in a garden and cuddles from their owners - could you provide a home suited to either of these, or anywhere in between?
If you think your home could be the perfect fit for one of the following dogs, please visit the website of the relevant charity to find out how you can adopt or foster.
If you cannot foster or adopt any of the canines, but you would still like to help the cause, consider making a financial donation to aid their work, again by following each charities' website.

5. Lara, a 3 year old Bulldog/Boxer cross
Lara is adorable and so affectionate – if you are looking for a sofa snuggle buddy, look no further than this girl. Lara wiggles her whole body when happy and always has a toy in her mouth when she greets people. She is anxious out and about when she sees other dogs, and will react, so she does need a home who are confident and capable of managing this for her by walking in quieter areas. It is believed that this will improve when she is out of kennels and had the right training. She does walk quite nicely on lead when there are no distractions. Lara has had a terrible past life and desperately needs to find a pet-free home who truly want to rescue a loving dog in need. | Helping Yorkshire Poundies

6. Remmy, RSPCA
Remmy is a big goofy baby who still has a lot of physical and mental growing to do. He still needs to be taught some manners but he is a clever boy and wants to please. His new owners need to understand that slow and steady is the way forward otherwise Remmy will lose interest. He is under-socialised and finds the world a scary place. He loves people and will smother you in affection. He needs to be the only pet and could live with older children. Photo: RSPCA Sheffield | RSPCA

7. Albus, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary
Albus is a six-month-old Lurcher / Sighthound. Albus arrived as an unclaimed stray. He had no name, so he was named after the great Dumbledore himself. He’s a super fun young dog who would benefit from continued basic training and lots of socialising. He is good with other dogs and could live with another neutered, vaccinated dog in his new home, but this is not essential. He is quite giddy meeting new people - therefore, he is best suited to older, confident children until he learns some manners. Photo: Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

8. Nova, RSPCA
Nova is an amazing girl, but is looking for a home with very patient and understanding owners. She has things that she needs support with and will need people who care enough to support her with them for potentially the rest of her life. Once she is your friend Nova is there to stay, she turns into such a playful pup, with just the right amount of sweetness. She needs people who are kind and can support her, respecting her boundaries, to make her feel safe and secure. Outside of the home Nova will happily walk around other dogs and interact with them, but she isn’t ready to share her family with another dog. | RSPCA
