Mamma Mia! Fans say thank you for the music as hit musical stops off at Sheffield on UK tour
‘Thank You For The Music’
If you’re in need of some sunshine in your life, you can book a last minute trip to a Greek island...or you can make The Lyceum in Sheffield your destination instead.
If you choose the Steel City theatre you will be transported to a small sun-drenched Greek isle in the Mediterranean, complete with a local taverna and beach.
Pretend your seat is a sun lounger and let this famous jukebox musical take you to a special place where you don’t need ‘Money, Money, Money’ and you can enjoy one ‘Last Summer’.
An absolute must for ABBA fans, this smash-hit musical first launched itself on the West End 27 years ago.
It’s been seen by 70 million around the world now and is touring the UK again this year, but this juggernaut of a production shows no signs of slowing down.
Year after year, tour after tour, this exhilarating, feel-good musical attracts sell-out audiences and gets them on their feet.
It’s impossible not to be dancing in the aisles at the end to the well known soundtrack, which feels just as fresh to new fans now as it did when Swedish pop music group ABBA first started releasing hits back in the 70s.

Mamma Mia! is a story of love, friendship and identity cleverly told through ABBA’s timeless songs - every hit number perfectly weaved into the storyline.
It’s based on Sophie’s (Hazel Baldwin) quest to discover the father she grew up never knowing, bringing her mother Donna (Jenn Griffin) face to face with three men from her romantic past on the eve of the 20-year-old’s wedding.
Sophie discovers her mum’s old diary and secretly invites three old lovers to the wedding, hoping to finally find her dad and make her feel complete.

And the result is perfect theatre - hilarious moments of comedy as Donna and her exes are reunited, intertwined with scenes of pure emotion as Sophie and her mum deal with the reality of ghosts of the past suddenly reappearing.

Slapstick comedy and innuendo, with a dash of raw emotion, energetic dance routines and fabulous costumes combine to create a recipe for success with this show.
But there are two other special ingredients worthy of note - Sarah Earnshaw (well known for her role as Val in TV series Friday Night Dinner) and Lauren Woolf, who play Donna’s friends, Tanya and Rosie.
They had the opening night audience in Sheffield in hysterics in every scene they starred in.

The soundtrack to the musical includes Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, SOS, Voulez Vous, The Winner Takes It All, Chiquitita, Slipping Through My Fingers, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! and Knowing Me, Knowing You.
