Sheffield man believes he has Britain's best home gym - can you beat it?

Nick Screeton of Sheffield entered pictures of his home gym to a competition hosted by personal training insurance provider, Protectivity, in a bid to prove he has the best home gym in Britain.

Fitness enthusiasts across the country were left discouraged following the closure of gyms across the nation in response to the coronavirus outbreak. However, Nick has been fortunate enough to remain faithful to his workout commitments.

Speaking exclusively to the Star, Nick said: “Due to the gyms being closed, I have trained more at home than I usually would at the gym. My gym is in the garden – 10m from my house, so I have no excuse to miss a session!

"The lockdown period has motivated me to use the extra time to work on my body. Exercise does wonders for my mindset, reducing stress, and just generally making me feel good about myself.

"The gym was a pretty expensive project, but it's not only a home gym, it's also where I run my business LEP Fitness. In total, the home gym has cost just under £60,000. This includes the building, lighting, heating and equipment - rowing machine, bike, ski machine, dumbbells that go up to 40kg, squat rack and battle ropes.

"Now I have paid for all of the equipment, it doesn't cost very much to run each month, and it's the best investment I've ever made. The studio enables me to keep myself and my family fit – my wife and two children when they're older.

"The home gym also allows me to run up to 50 personal training sessions per week - where I help local people who live in Sheffield to achieve their health and fitness goals that are truly meaningful to them."

Surely there aren’t any negatives about having your own fully equipped gym in your garden. However, Nick mentions that he loves working out at commercial gyms and enjoys interacting with new people whenever he is there.

He said, “I love training in a commercial gym. It's nice to train at home, with no queues for machines, and I can blast my music! But that said, I like training in a commercial gym too, using all of the machines and seeing other people.

"The social aspect is what I miss, and also, with me being at home most of the time (running LEP Fitness), it's nice to take a break and experience a different environment. It's nice to have both options, and I have missed training in a commercial gym. I'm looking forward to them reopening on the 25th of July.”
