'Secret post office' in Sheffield city centre on the market for £135,000 after closure

A former Royal Mail facility which gained a reputation as a hidden ‘secret post office’ in Sheffield city centre is on the market.

The premises, at 52 Bank Street, used to be a Callers Office for the postal service which allowed visitors to drop off items of mail and buy stamps with cash.

For those in the know it was viewed as a valuable way of beating the queues at the main city centre post office inside the Wilko store on Haymarket.

But the place closed around two years ago, and it is now listed for sale as an office building by property firm SMC Chartered Surveyors.

The asking price for the freehold interest is £135,000. The building is offered with vacant possession and it has a rateable value of £6,800.

SMC says the offices cover 1,039 sq ft and are ‘suitable for owner occupation, investment or potential residential conversion’.

The company describes the property as ‘a middle parade traditional building constructed of brick and slate, arranged over basement, ground, first, second and third floor levels – entrance directly from Bank Street’.
