Zoopla, which describes itself as the UK’s most comprehensive property destination, says the past year has been anything but normal, with some people being placed on furlough, meaning they’ve potentially had more time on their hands to do up their property.

Others have been able to save more money than usual and have spent in on home improvements.

In fact, nearly 1 in 5 Brits have renovated throughout national lockdowns. Whether that’s a new statement feature wall or a property purchase requiring a completely fresh start, people have been ticking DIY off their makeover lists in an effort to beautify their homes and increase their value.

This is why Zoopla is on the lookout for the UK’s best makeover project and is asking Sheffield householders to share and submit before-and-after pictures of their completed projects.

With property prices rising, the value of renovating and making-over is more important than ever. Zoopla says the value of homes changing hands nearly doubled in the first 15 weeks of this year compared with the same time period in 2020.

And one in every 50 homes was sold subject to contract between 1 January and 15 April, up from one in every 100 homes a year earlier, according to Zoopla’s House Price Index.

That’s why Zoopla wants to see homes that have undergone impressive but also financially savvy makeovers. To enter, submit your photos and include the impact you think your improvements have added to your property’s value.

Tom Parker, consumer spokesman at Zoopla, says: “Getting stuck in with a home makeover or interior project can be really rewarding because it’s updating your living space and giving it a fresh new lease of life.

"Not only this, it’s adding value to your home should you wish to sell in the near future. That’s why many of us, after spending months at home, may have decided to reinvest some money on updating our living spaces.

“Some people may have bought some paint to give the make-shift home office a new look, whereas others may have taken on extensions and building work to maximise the return on their property investment.

"Either way, we want to see the property glow-ups and reward one household with a £500 home improvement voucher.”

The competition will close on May 20. Your makeover must have been completed during lockdown – March 23 2020 to May 20 2021. The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 years and over.
