Chartered surveyor and property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall has been instructed as sales agent for Burghwallis Hall, a Grade II Star listed former home for the elderly.

The company has been instructed to sell the property on behalf of the Diocese of Hallam, with the firm's specialists now seeking potential buyers for the impressive site in the Doncaster area.

Sanderson Weatherall is inviting offers for the freehold interest in the imposing Grade II Star listed building, situated south of Grange Lane, in the village of Burghwallis, a place whose history can be traced to the Domesday Book. Burghwallis Hall is situated in a tranquil rural setting with easy access to the A1.

Sanderson Weatherall partner Andrew Ellis said: “Burghwallis Hall offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-known historic building with centuries of heritage. The property was until recently a 28-bedroom residential care home, but with the correct planning permissions it could easily again become a fantastic family home.”

The informal planning brief identifies the potential removal of later additions to the main building, which could allow the sympathetic refurbishment of the original parts of the hall, and conversion back to residential use. It is also anticipated that, subject to the necessary approvals, consent may be obtained to develop two areas in particular within the grounds, extending to approximately 0.72 and 0.29 hectares respectively, which could accommodate six detached residential properties.
