The hardware giant had closed all its shops due to coronavirus, with home delivery and click-and-collect the only options available for customers needing DIY equipment.

But it announced earlier this week that 14 were reopening, and yesterday that list grew by 61.

The stores now open include the Queens Road branch in Sheffield, the Doncaster outlet and the Barnsley one. The Sheffield branch on Penistone Road in Hillsborough is not on the list.

B&Q says it has introduced social distancing controls at all its re-opened stores, where it is limiting the number of customers allowed in store at any one time, two-metre floor markings are in place and perspex screens have been installed at checkouts.

Customers will only be able to purchase products that are available to take away in store that day, and services like kitchen and bathroom design, paint mixing, timber cutting and key cutting are not available for the time being. Cash is not being accepted, with customers asked to use cards, gift cards or contactless payment instead.

Garden centres are open for self-service at the re-opened stores, and B&Q says a ‘range of plants’ will be available.

Click-and-collect is still available for those stores which remain closed and home delivery is also available for selected lines, though the demand means there is a long wait to access B&Q’s website.
