Apartments and homes planned in empty Victorian villa in Sheffield once visited by King George VII

Tapton Court was once accommodation for nurses, then students, before a fire left it empty and without use. Now it is being restored with big plans for more apartments and homes in Sheffield.

The building once played host to King George VII when he was the Prince of Wales, as he was reportedly friends with Henry Steel, who bought the mansion in 1878 after the death of Sheffield steel magnate John Henry Andrew. Having had many owners over the years, it was last used as student accommodation by the University of Sheffield, before it was closed in the early 2000s.

The PJ Livesey Group purchased the site and began working on their plans in 2021. They will transform the main building into 14 brand new apartments, with high ceilings and lots of historic features retained.

The newer block of the house, Ranmoor house, is being converted into “sleek” contemporary apartments. The stables and Gate House will also be converted, but into houses with an additional three new build family homes built on the site as well.
