As well as extending the Stamp Duty holiday the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced details of a new mortgage guarantee scheme that will involve offering government-backed 95 per cent mortgages from April onwards.

Speaking in the House of Commons, he said it was ‘a policy that gives people who can’t afford a big deposit the chance to buy their own home’, adding: “As the Prime Minister has said, we want to turn generation rent into generation buy.”

Philip Price, territory operator for Sheffield at estate agent Purplebricks, said the scheme was ‘fantastic news for first time buyers, especially those with smaller deposits who need a helping hand onto the market’.

"We have some great properties for first time buyers, which are within their budget and in popular locations,” said Philip. “Many university students stay and settle in Sheffield after their degree so places like Rotherham, Worksop, Barnsley and Chesterfield are particularly popular with first time buyers as the properties are affordable and have excellent transport links.”

Here are nine of Purplebricks’ best properties for first time buyers in and around Sheffield that are on the market right now.
