10 of the best Sheffield homes you can buy and save thousands thanks to the stamp duty holiday

The cut in stamp duty – the tax paid by people buying residential property or land – was one of the biggest announcements in chancellor Rishi Sunak’s ‘mini budget’.

Homes worth as much as £500,000 bought as a main residence are now exempt from the charge, as the threshold to start paying has been moved up substantially until April 2021 in a bid to keep the housing market moving.

For example, a first-time buyer purchasing a home worth half a million pounds between now and the end of March would pay nothing in stamp duty – then, from April, a £10,000 bill applies.

Someone who has owned property before would also pay nothing before April, when they would then have to pay £15,000.

Those looking for buy-to-let houses or holiday homes still need to pay a surcharge, but even they will see their stamp duty bills fall markedly.

Here are 10 of the best homes listed on Zoopla worth up to £500,000 in Sheffield that benefit from the stamp duty holiday.
