A NINE-year-old boy sparked a police hunt in Sheffield when he disappeared on Tuesday afternoon.

The youngster was reported missing at around 2pm and the South Yorkshire Police helicopter was scrambled to help search the Shiregreen area.

He was found safe and well in the city suburb later the same day.

The county’s police helicopter was called on the same night to search the Ecclesfield area after a report was made of a youth with an air weapon.

Staff in the helicopter located the boy and directed officers on the ground to him.

That same day the helicopter was also asked to search the Manor Top area for a stolen car, which was later found abandoned.
