A STATELY home is revealing the secrets of its gardens at a special after-hours tour on July 12.

Hardwick Hall, near Chesterfield, is holding a fundraising evening which will highlight the history and development of the 18-acre gardens, as well as future plans for the site.

The tour will be led by Hardwick’s outdoor manager, Ian Hunt, and plants grown in the gardens will also be available to buy during the evening.

The event runs from 6pm to 8pm, beginning with a talk in the hall’s grand entrance, and all proceeds will go to the National Gardens Scheme, which helps to fund posts at the stately home.

Tickets cost £10. To book call 01246 858 400.

A masterclass in the art of propagation is also taking place at Hardwick on September 27 from 10am to 4pm.

The £40 course features a day of activities and a two-course meal.
