Pictures show how landmark Sheffield city centre building will look under plans for new restaurant
Plans overcome latest hurdle with council backing for some of the work needed on the building
Pictures show how a landmark Sheffield city centre building will look, under plans for a new restaurant for the site.
The artists impression have been drawn up by Ashleigh Signs, as part of a planning applications, which has been lodged with Sheffield Council.
It shows how the former Gaumont cinema building, on Barker’s Pool, would look under plans for a Wingstop chicken restaurant.

The project is currently moving through the planning system, and the authority gave the go-ahead this week for air conditioning units, condenser units, fridge condenser units and ducting to be fitted to the back of the building as part of the scheme.
That was one of a number of planning permissions needed for 17 Barker’s Pool, a unit within the Gaumont building, part of the Heart of the City regeneration scheme, which need approval before it can go ahead.
The unit has not been occupied for several years, while the regeneration works have been carried out, and the other changes which are also in the pipeline include alterations to the shopfront, changes to allow seats outside, and changes to allow branded barriers.

Documents also reveal that the firm behind the scheme, Lemon Pepper Holdings Ltd, hope to be able to open the outside seating beyond the usual 9pm.
And they also reveal plans for a delivery hatch on the front of the venue for takeaway delivery companies to pick up food without overcrowding the inside of the restaurant.
The application states: “The proposed hatch will facilitate an organised and efficient process for the collection of takeaway orders, as already exists across many of Wingstop’s sites.
“The use of the hatch will be aligned to the permitted trading hours of the restaurant only. Outside of these hours, the access hatch will be securely locked by restaurant staff.
“It is consistent with many restaurant operations today, including other Wingstop stores, Nando’s, Five Guys, Popeyes etc, particularly in more constrained settings.”
The application claims the scheme is appropriate for the site and acknowledges the heritage significance of the site, which is close to Sheffield’s war memorial, and to Sheffield City Hall.
The building previously served as the Gaumont and Odeon cinemas, as well as the Kingdom nightclub.
