A ‘customer notice’ has been stuck to the window of Edison & Co, on East Parade next to the Anglican cathedral, saying the place will be shut ‘until further notice’.

The café, originally called Edison's Coffee, opened in 2016 at the premises formerly occupied by Eten.

It was established as a non-profit organisation by the charity WISE Ability, to help support disadvantaged people and boost their employment prospects.

In 2019 the café underwent a rebrand to focus on its food menu.

Operations manager Matthew Harris said last year: “When still named Edison’s Coffee we were always known as a coffee house or café, but we wanted to be able to attract all different types of clientele so we decided to re-launch as a casual dining daytime restaurant."

WISE Ability has been approached for comment.
