We went to the Red Lion and this is what we thought

The Red Lion at Grenoside is not to be mixed up with the Old Red Lion which is further up in the village.

A couple of weeks ago we called in for a drink and as the food was coming out of the kitchen we were salivating as it went past, so decided we have got to try the place.

A traditional local pub which has recently had a new outdoor seating area ideal for the upcoming summer months.

A cosy and warm pub which offers fresh home cooked food.

The menu was over generous with options. As we had visited on a Wednesday there is several options off the mid-week madness menu.

A selection of the usually classic favorites. We decided to have Tapas three for £9.95, halloumi fingers, chilli prawns and chicken goujons, unfortunately they had run out of two of our choices so we opted for garlic mushrooms and jalapeno poppers.

The starter came well presented with a chilli sauce and a creamy mayonnaise. Several deep fried crispy goujons, the poppers were gorgeous, spicy jalapeno's laced in cheese and then deep fried in a crumbs.

The garlic mushrooms were disappointing, we couldn't taste any garlic and they were in a bland sauce, but overall a nice sharing plate.

As we ordered mains we told about the offer of two pub classics and a bottle of wine £22.95, great value, which we opted for I choose the salmon and cod fishcakes my partner went for liver and onions, one of his favourites, a shame that they had run out of this so he chose bangers & mash.

We didn't have to wait long, mine was two rather large fishcakes, filled with mash potato, salmon and cod chunks, they were really too big which seemed like you were just eating mash, less would have been better.

They were served with salad and homemade chips, golden brown and fluffy in the middle, a true chip delight!

My partners meal was three good quality tasty meaty sausages, it's a shame that the mash was bland and the gravy was watery, served with peas, we enjoyed a lovely cold bottle of sauvignon blanc with our meals.

With Wednesday been full of offers and deals the barman was extremely busy but he offered a really good service to us to say he was rushed off his feet.

We decided to share a pudding, a chocolate brownie with ice-cream £4.95, a lovely sized portion of brownie, thick chunks of chocolate with an extremely rich taste, crispy on top, perfect!
