‘We cannot make the numbers work’: Sheffield pub loved by Blades fans to close

The Railway Hotel on Bramall Lane is the latest pub in Sheffield to announce its closure following the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the hospitality trade.

Announcing the news, the pub said: “After five amazing years hosting you all at The Railway we are sad to announce that we are closing with immediate effect. We had hoped to weather the Covid-19 storm, but with no prospect of football crowds (as we know them), no hotel, and far fewer students in the coming months we simply cannot make the numbers work….

“All we can say now is thank you to our wonderful staff, customers and suppliers who helped us build our pub into a community. We’ve no plans for another venue in the immediate future, but it’s in our blood now, so don’t be surprised if you see us again.”
