Pubs and breweries in Sheffield have received the seal of approval from real ale enthusiasts by gaining a place in the 2021 Good Beer Guide – which was published just days before a new national lockdown shut much of the hospitality industry for a month.

The latest edition of the guide, produced by the Campaign for Real Ale, features 30 city pubs and 20 breweries, two of which are new additions.

Expert commentators including celebrity chef Tom Kerridge have contributed to the reports within the volume which is CAMRA’s premier publication, profiling the very best pubs in which to find a great pint of traditional real ale across the UK.

Thousands of independent volunteers worked together to compile this year’s entries. In total, there are as many as 406 pubs in Yorkshire in the 2021 guide with a further 95 new regional entries making the list.

However, the guide’s release came ahead of another countrywide lockdown which commenced on Thursday, November 5, closing pubs and the wider hospitality trade again in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.

CAMRA’s national chairman Nik Antona called the measure ‘a devastating blow for an industry that is currently on its knees’.
