And now a second collection of recipes featuring the spicy sauce, which dates all the way back to 1855, has been released just in time for Christmas.

The new Henderson’s Relish cook book, Strong and Northern, features 60 recipes that reflect the diverse cultures in Sheffield today.

A hardback with 192 pages, it covers the classics such as meat and potato pie and stew and dumplings, as well as new and different dishes such as pork sancocho and Yemeni chicken.

Sections include pies and pastries, family favourites, one pot meals and Northern classics.

There is a whole section dedicated to vegan dishes for those who have given up meat and dairy.

Each recipe features someone who loves Sheffield, and has served the city through their art, sporting endeavour, music, work, or community contribution.

Henderson’s celebrates Sheffield through the voices of its fans, who describe their city, their story and their favourite Henderson’s dishes.

The foreword is written by general manager Matt Davies, who said: “We’re delighted to launch the new Henderson’s Relish Strong and Northern cook book, just in time for Christmas.

“With new recipes that are easily achievable for home cooks, there’s something for Hendo’s fans everywhere – no matter what their tastes or dietary requirements.”

The recipe for historic Henderson’s remains known to only three members of the family today.

The new book is published by Meze Publishing, and featured contributors include England footballer Millie Bright and former world squash champion Nick Matthew – representing the city’s sporting prowess – as well as renowned artist Joe Scarborough and inaugural poet laureate Otis Mensah, leading lights of Sheffield’s thriving creative scene.

Musicians, authors, charity workers, metal grinders and film makers share what Sheffield means to them: a global city that is a ‘big village’ that tastes just right.

The Strong and Northern cookbook is a 192 page hardback and retails at £20.

It will be available to purchase from tomorrow, December 6, from Henderson’s Relish at www.hendersonsrelish.com, Amazon, bookshops including Waterstones, local gift shops in the Sheffield area and also online from www.mezepublishing.co.uk
