Surprised customers spot Cadbury's Creme Eggs on sale already in Sheffield Spar – is it too early?
Baffled Sheffield shoppers were not expecting to be greeted by the sight of an Easter treat when they popped into a Sheffield Spar in mid-December.
Usually unavailable until after Christmas, the Easter-themed Creme Eggs can be bought from the Spar in Crosspool early this year.
Although some fans of the popular product will be glad that their favourite chocolate is available early, others raised their eyebrows at the time of year when the eggs are on sale.
Louise Robinson tweeted: “#happyeaster Spar would like to wish you all a happy Easter (Dec 17th!) premature eggulation.”
A spokesperson for Spar said: “Creme Eggs are always available from Boxing Day, and this year Cadbury sent them early and told us to get them on sale.”
Creme Eggs were introduced in 1971. In the UK in the 1980s, Cadbury made Creme Eggs available year-round but sales dropped and they returned to seasonal availability.
