Starbucks, which closed all its outlets in March as the country entered lockdown, has said it is planning a phased reopening but hopes to have all 950-odd branches across Britain back up and running by the end of June.

It has made a number of changes to protect staff and customers from coronavirus.

For now, all drinks will be served in paper cups, though it will continue to honour the personal cup discount.

Social distancing will be in place inside its stores, there will be more frequent cleaning and sanitising of high-contact surface areas, increased handwashing by workers and Plexiglass screens in place.

Contactless payments only will be allowed, either by card, phone, or the Starbucks Rewards app which also enables customers to order ahead.

NHS workers will be offered a free tall drink of their choice as a gesture of thanks for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stores will be serving a ‘near-complete’ list of drinks, including iced coffees and frappuccinos but there will be a slightly more restricted food menu, focusing on its most popular items.
