Prem Jerath – a former chef – still works in the food industry, but no longer in a hands-on way. Instead he’s turned his love of grub and his knowledge of how good food should be made into Star My Takeaway, a Youtube channel which does the taste-testing for you, so you can choose your next Saturday night treat with his star rating guiding your choice.

Instantly recognisable for his bright shirts and trademark hats, along with his ‘Here we Come’ catchphrase, Prem’s Star My Takeaway videos are authentic and fun, giving you a true flavour of what you can expect from the area’s eateries.

Normally performing to camera on his own, he is occasionally joined by eight-year-old son Dev, or other members of his family, as he puts Yorkshire’s finest to the test. Videographer for the channel is Prem’s wife Sapna.

Based in Aston between Sheffield and Rotherham, where he has lived over 35 years, Prem is a local lad at heart and his chatty style is already drawing a following online. And word is already spreading, with nominations for new take-out suggestions coming in from around the county.

How to nominate a venue

Does your local café sell the best baps in town? Does it deliver up a dish that needs to be known by a wider audience? You can reach out to Prem by commenting on his Youtube channel, or messaging him on Facebook or via Twitter, and asking him to taste-test your favourite.

Or are you a local business which wants to get its own Star My Takeaway rating? You can also request a visit from Yorkshire’s newest Youtuber.

Prem said: “I’m fairly new to Youtubing, but food is my passion, I love talking about it. I’ve worked in the food sector for many years, but now with my family growing up a bit I have time to concentrate on something I enjoy, which is my Youtube videos, and to share my love of food.”

His no frills style videos are a fun watch, and he welcomes comments, likes and new subscribers, who want to share news about local takeaways.

He added: “The star rating is entirely my personal opinion, everyone likes different things. But I hope people enjoy the videos, that’s what it is all about.”

So far he’s tasted Greek and Mexican, Asian and more, and is building up his video base every weekend. He’s shortly heading to Birmingham to review a Punjabi pub, and Sheffield market’s wide range of food outlets will soon be getting their own coverage.
