'Invigorating combinations': Sheffield restaurant JÖRO awarded Michelin Star

Much-loved Sheffield restaurant JÖRO has been awarded a Michelin Star during a glitzy ceremony in Dublin, ended a decade-long wait for the accolade in the Steel City.

JÖRO has made a name for itself for providing some of the finest meals that can be found anywhere in the city.

In 2024, owners moved the restaurant from Kelham Island to a former paper mill in Oughtibridge, renovating the 19th century building into a trendy venue.

And now, chef Luke French’s delicious dishes have been recognised on a national level, bringing a star to Sheffield for the first time in a decade.

The Michelin team said: “Luke French’s JÖRO has developed rapidly since relocating from Sheffield to nearby Oughtibridge. Mr French’s cooking is bold and original yet measured with it, adding nuances of flavour into every dish.”

The inspectors said: “JÖRO’s relocation to this 300-year-old former mill on the edge of Sheffield has certainly been a labour of love. The building has been smartly converted, with bedrooms available upstairs and an open kitchen in the dining room.

“The cooking is pure and occasionally playful, with the quality ingredients treated with respect and understanding. Just take the Vale of Mowbray hogget, for example, enhanced by a mint-tinged lamb jus, a bright tomato and chipotle cream, and a vibrant caponata. The excellent service is a real team effort, with every person brimming with enthusiasm.”

The Michelin Guide for 2026 - and all the new Stars - have been unveiled in Dublin. It’s the first time the Guide has hosted in the Irish capital, after success in Glasgow in 2025.

A total of 1,210 restaurants – including 230 Starred ones – are included in the selection, with all Three-Michelin-Star establishments retaining their distinction.

The London dining scene has continued to excel, with two restaurants receiving Two Stars.

Across the selection, 20 eateries have received One Michelin Star. 37 new Bib Gourmands have also been awarded for restaurants offering good food at a great price. Seven new Green Stars have been given for their outstanding commitment to a more responsible approach to gastronomy.
