Proove, in Broomhill, has switched to offering deliveries and, during the week, a takeaway service since the Government ordered eat-in establishments to shut in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Deepak Jaiswal, the pizza restaurant’s co-founder and director, said customers had since shown a ‘humbling’ level of support.

“This has included amazing messages from staff at the hospitals who love the fact they can order their pizza to be at home for them after a long shift, day or night,” he said.

“But we recognise there are so many people out there working in harm's way to protect communities by providing essential healthcare, distribution, infrastructure, supplies and support – the key workers, our heroes of today, and we want to show them how much we appreciate what they are doing.”

From Monday, April 6, Proove will be donating a tray of wood-fired pizzas to a team of critical workers every day from each of its two restaurants – its other site is in West Didsbury, Manchester.

A tray carries 15 balls of dough for 15 pizzas.

“Working alongside the lovely and generous people at CityGrab (City Taxis) in Sheffield and ClubGrab (Club Cars) in Manchester, that’ll be 15 pizzas sent out and delivered to the door of a team of key workers every day in Sheffield and Manchester,” said Deepak.

But nominations are required, he added.

“Tell us about a team you work in or one that you have had help from. Heroes in your community that you think would love a bunch of pizzas delivered to their workplace – they could be a team on a hospital ward or inside a care home, the afternoon shift at the fire station, the evening shift at the local supermarket, your local GP or school.

“If you can provide a contact name with a method of communication, that would make it a lot easier to coordinate. And from there we will create a schedule for deliveries for the week.”

Send suggestions to [email protected] along with the following details: team name and address; contact in the team; why they deserve free pizzas, in less than 50 words, and a picture of the team if possible.

Each day, the recipients will be revealed on Proove’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Nominators need to provide their name initially but can ask to not be mentioned in any social media announcements.

“We commit to continuing this initiative for as long as it takes for the restaurants in our communities to open up again and as long as we are still able to operate," said Deepak.

Proove was launched in 2015. Its head office is in Sheffield and it employs 60 staff across its two sites.
