Sheffield Council issues statement after video of huge rat in takeaway window goes viral

Sheffield Council is investigating after a video showed a live rat in the window of a takeaway shop.

The footage, widely shared online, shows the rodent in the front window of My Chicken 2 Nite on Page Hall Road before being startled by a bang on the window and scampering out of view.

It is not clear when the video was filmed but it has been shared in the last few days.

Sheffield Council confirmed that its environmental health officers were aware of the footage and had tried to contact the shop's owners.

A council spokeswoman said: "A visit has been made but the shop is currently closed and is not trading.

"Follow-up calls will be made to establish if there is a pest problem at the premises."

The Scores on the Doors website shows that the shop has the highest possible five-star food hygiene rating, awarded by the council on December 10, 2019.

The Star has attempted to contact the shop's owners.
