Tony Duke from Craft n Berry and Jules Gray from Hop Hideout, who also helps to organise Sheffield Beer Week and Indie Beer Feast, are on the committee for the event, which will take place on Saturday, July 17.

Similar to Record Shop Day, Indie Beer Shop Day (IBSD) will see the owners of over 80 beer shops from across the country come together to celebrate their independent ethos and unique community.

“Expect events, exclusive beer collaborations and more throughout the day across the whole of the UK; from Perth to Truro, from Whitley Bay to Cardiff, Yorkshire and everywhere in between.”

“Indie Beer Shop Day's goal is to aid a coordinated recovery and revitalisation of each local high street up and down the UK. Much like Record Store Day with its anticipated special vinyl releases increasing and pushing a positive footfall and revenue impact,” they added.

“In addition their will be local level unique beer collaborations, to discover and hunt out, releasing on Saturday July 17th. Driving much needed excitement and a positive spotlight on this hard-working group of small businesses.”

As part of IBSD, three breweries including Sheffield’s Abbeydale Brewery; Pilot in Leith, Scotland and Double Barrelled Brewery in Reading, will release an official collaboration beer that will be exclusively available in the participating beer shops.

The collaborating breweries have been selected for their independent ethos and the way in which they supported the beer shop sector throughout the pandemic.

Full details of the collaboration beers will be released in the coming weeks, and the beers are set to launch in participating beer shops on Friday, July 2.

They will then be available for a fortnight, running up to IBSD.

The celebrations will culminate with an online beer tasting night on July 19, hosted by renowned beer broadcaster and writer, Pete Brown, which will be available to watch live via the IBSD Instagram account.
