This Sheffield bar is now serving fresh draught beer to customers at their homes – here's how it works

A Sheffield bar has revived its door-to-door beer service, allowing customers to order draught ale straight from their local taps.

BrewDog, on Devonshire Street in the city centre, has brought back its ‘on-demand beer drops’, meaning people can enjoy drinks that have been freshly canned without needing to leave their homes.

Orders can be made via the Scottish company’s BrewDog Hop Drop app on the Apple iOS, and on Android devices.

The fresh beer on offer will initially be the craft brewery’s flagship Punk IPA and Lost Lager. Other canned and bottled beers will be available alongside a limited food menu.

NHS workers will receive 50 per cent off their order along with a bottle of hand sanitiser.

The decision to relaunch the delivery service has allowed staff to ‘opt in’ to returning to work. Bosses will provide staff with PPE masks and gloves, as well as refresher training on sanitation protocol, and physical distancing measures.

As well as Sheffield, the first BrewDog sites to offer the on-demand beer drops will be Aberdeen, Edinburgh, London, Glasgow, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Reading, Birmingham and Bristol.

Last month the company's co-founders James Watt and Martin Dickie pledged to sacrifice their salaries for 2020 in a bid to avert job losses at the business.

Customers’ email addresses must end in nhs.net, nhs.uk or hscni.net to be eligible for the NHS discount.

BrewDog has been making alcohol-based hand sanitiser at its distillery in Aberdeenshire to help tackle a shortage of the product. Tens of thousands of bottles of the gel have now been donated to the health service, charities and community groups.

Last month the firm launched ‘virtual bars’ featuring games and online tastings to entertain its fans during lockdown.
