The announcement is the latest bit of good news for drinkers itching to get back to the pub as restrictions are eased.

Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes in England will be allowed to serve customers outdoors from April 12, provided Covid hospital admissions and deaths keep falling, according to the Government’s road map out of lockdown.

Marston’s said today that almost 70 per cent of its pubs across England are set to reopen from that date, with only those lacking an outdoor space remaining closed, and claimed it had invested to improve the outdoor spaces ready for reopening wherever possible.

It also revealed the measures put in place to help customers drink and eat safely in line with the restrictions, which it said include:

Adapted food and drink offers for customers to enjoy outdoors. Food offers may vary from site to site, but much-loved pub food will be at the heart of every menu which will include vegetarian and vegan options

To accompany table service, there will be an online ordering system called ‘Marston’s Tap’. The online platform is available across the majority of Marston’s pubs for guests to use and a full rollout is underway following its success last year

Ralph Findlay, CEO of Marston’s, said: “We are delighted we can reopen many of our pubs, but we can’t wait until all our pubs can serve customers once again. The resilience of our pub managers and pub partners during this time has been admirable and we look forward to safely welcoming back guests and reuniting friends and family.”
