Owner of popular Sheffield vegan restaurant announces it is closing 'with immediate effect'

A popular vegan restaurant on Abbeydale Road is moving locations, and has announced its closure in its current premises ‘with immediate effect’.

Ajanta’s Vegetarian, which was situated at 430 Abbeydale Road, has been a popular fixture since it opened last year.

It serves vegetarian and vegan food prepared to traditional Punjabi recipes handed down through the generations of owner Ajanta’s family.

A statement from the owner, Ajanta McGuill, said: “With a new leaseholder in place from yesterday, we were hoping to extend our stay in our current Abbeydale Road premises until the end of March.

“Unfortunately negotiations did not go as we would have wished and, as a result, we have taken the decision to close Ajanta’s with immediate effect.

“The good news is we should be up and running somewhere else in the very near future - so watch this space for an exciting announcement in the coming week.

“In the meantime, thank you once again to all our fantastic customers who have supported us so magnificently throughout our first year.

“We look forward to seeing you guys all again soon and delivering our fresh and tasty 100 per cent vegan food so you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own home.”

Regular customers have posted on Ajanta’s Facebook page looking forward to the new opening.

One wrote: “Good luck and hope you get set up somewhere new soon!”

The new location for Ajanta’s Vegetarian has yet to be announced. Keep an eye on the restaurants social media pages for updates.
