Customers are asked to use hand sanitiser on arrival and follow measures laid out throughout to keep staff and fellow customers safe.

Ongoing safety measures also include one-way markers and encouraging all customers to pay via contactless where possible.

McDonalds said it will also be working with the NHS's track and trace service, urging all customers to provide their contact details if they choose to eat-in.

This can be done via a smartphone or a QR code which will be available on each table.

In a statement, the chain added: “Reopening the dine-in area will enable some restaurants to take part in the Chancellor’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme, offering 50 per cent off dine-in bills, up to £10 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in August.

"Further details will be shared on the website and via the My McDonald’s app with which restaurants are taking part.
