Inside the new-look Sheffield burger joint decorated by renowned graffiti artist

Oliver’s has become a popular addition to Sharrow Vale’s thriving foodie scene since opening there in 2018.

But owner David Fashanu, who named the venue on Hickmott Road, just off Ecclesall Road, after his three-year-old son, has decided upon a change of direction.

He has overhauled the menu, introducing a range of burgers while keeping some of the old bistro favourites.

David – a Cordon Bleu-trained cook who was previously executive sous-chef at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Sheffield – has also brought in graffiti artist Simon Kent, perhaps best known for his foxes on buildings around the city, to decorate.

“We’re trying to keep our loyal customers while bringing in a younger crowd,” he explained.

“With Mud Crab and Lucky Fox on Ecclesall Road both having closed, I thought there was an opening for a new burger place, and we’re delighted with the new menu.”

The new burger menu ranges from a classic hamburger to Portobello mushroom, mac and blue cheese, and venison versions, while bistro dishes include grilled halloumi sandwiches, scallop salad and a pie of the day.

The cafe/restaurant – which opened in a long-closed hairdressing salon – secured a 2020 Good Food Award, winning praise for its ‘exceptional levels of food quality, service and value’.

It was recently put up for sale, but David says he would only sell if he received an offer that is ‘too good to refuse’.
