I tried Wendy’s Biggie Meal Deal in Sheffield - and was very impressed

When you walk into Wendy’s, situated just steps away from Mcdonald’s, there’s nothing much to tell it apart from your average fast-food chain. The quality, taste and value of its food, however, is world’s away.

After ordering our Biggie Meal Deals - one spicy and one mild, it comes in record speed. “The moment you order is the moment the meat hits the grill,” the manager George Papadmou tells us.

For £7.99, you get four chicken nuggets, a chicken sandwich, a portion of skin on fries and any sauce or drink of your choice - which includes their iconic frosty drinks, a mix of ice cream and milkshake. I went for a chocolate frosty and endless garlic mayo - the perfect accompaniment.

The frosty was light and luxurious, and I definitely understood the hype. Dipping your chips into your frosty is encouraged, but I’m still a bit unsure on that craze.

What stood out about this meal deal, above all else, was the quality of every element. The chicken was moist and flavoured to perfection, the bun was fresh and nicely toasted. Even the lettuce was notably fluffy. Despite a very good portion size, I left feeling nourished and not like I’d overdone it.

Drinks are refillable - another reason why the Biggie Meal Deal is undeniably well priced.

When it comes to fast food on a budget, it’s common for customers to accept it may be a bit average. You get what you pay for, right? But Wendy’s goes beyond this.

“This is our opportunity to surprise people on how good fast food can be,” George Papadmou tells The Star.

Wendy’s is one of the only fast food chains where the chicken is halal, making it an inclusive option for Sheffield’s diverse communities. “We wanted to take the extra steps to make it accessible to everybody,” Wendy’s manager said.

With 45 more set to open in the UK this year, Wendy’s is here to stay - and I’m incredibly happy about it. The Biggie Meal Deal is a tasty, quality and well-priced option. I almost forgot it's fast food.
