Lane7 has signed a temporary deal to take over Plug nightclub on Matilda Street to host a new drinking and dining area that will have the capacity for 200 people.

The pop-up outdoor venue, which is due to open on April 12, will be located in Plug’s carpark, just 200 metres from Lane7 – a boutique bowling alley that opened in December 2019.

"It's been a tough year for the hospitality sector, and for everyone missing spending time with friends.

“In our new Sheffield pop-up people can grab a drink and some street food, meet their mates, watch sports on the huge screen, and make up for lost time.

"The Lane7 team have worked around the clock to bring this outdoor event to life. It's just what the city needs to get on the front foot of the sector re-emerging from lockdown."

A spokesperson for Lane7 said the venue will offer street food seven days a week, and will announce the line-up of food traders shortly.

It will also have a huge 6mx3m screen.

There will be a local craft line on rotation and the venue is also set to launch a selection of new cocktails, including a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini and a Drumstick Caipirinha.

As part of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown, outdoor venues will be permitted to reopen from April 12, while indoor hospitality is scheduled to welcome customers back from May 17.

The future of the Plug nightclub has been uncertain for a while. Bosses insisted it was set for a ‘rebirth’ under new management following speculation in July 2018 that the club was to be sold off and the site would reopen as a ‘golfing supplies company.

In July 2019, notice of ‘peaceable re-entry’ was placed outside the nightclub which stated that the lease of the property was ‘forefeit’. There has been no update on its future since then.

Lane7 Sheffield will then follow with gaming reopening from May 17.
