Five Guys Sheffield reopening chaos as ‘customers serve themselves and staff abandon posts’

Customers have complained about two hour queues for food on the day a Sheffield restaurant re-opened after a lockdown closure.

Five Guys on the Centertainment complex in Sheffield launched a ‘click and collect’ service yesterday.

The idea is that customers wait outside the restaurant for their food to be brought to the door for them to collect at a pre-arranged time.

But the American restaurant chain is said to have struggled to cope with demand from customers wanting a lockdown treat.

Unhappy diners turned to Twitter to voice their disappointment at lengthy queues and a lack of social distancing.

One woman, Zo, said there were around 100 customers in the queue and she abandoned her order because she could not get to the restaurant door ‘safely’ because of the crowd outside.

She said: “Wow! That click an collect system at Sheffield was really poorly set up, around 100 people all in close proximity of each other, waiting for their orders.

“I had my order booked for 7.30pm and had to leave with out it as I couldn’t get to the door safely.”

Joel Harry posted: “Been waiting at your Sheffield, Valley Centertainment branch. Paid online for click and collect for 6pm and I was still waiting for my order at 7.30pm along with lots of other customers.

“I had to leave without my food and no refund. How can I get my money back please?”

Hannah Victoria said: “What the hell is going on at your Sheffield store? We’ve now been stood outside two hours waiting for an order that was booked for 6.20pm.”

One customer, who filmed a crowd gathered outside the restaurant. said staff ended up ‘abandoning their posts’ because of abuse from unhappy customers.

“Five Guys opened up today and it turned to chaos. Staff abandoning their posts as people started serving themselves,” he said.

“I left as it became unsafe with social distancing being abandoned.

“Staff were getting verbal abuse from customers and they were between an hour and two hours behind on orders

“The staff retreated inside and people started serving themselves.”

Five Guys has been approached for a statement.
