The Furnace, which is the latest venue to open within the Heart of the City development and is located in a new public square on Charter Row, opposite the rear entrance to The Light cinema, welcomed its first diners last night.

The bar and restaurant’s stylish terrace includes a stunning firepit, and the Sheffield-inspired menu includes humble fish cakes which have been elevated to fine dining, Yorkshire Tea-smoked mackerel, and mouth-watering Yorkshire puddings served with vanilla ice cream, salted caramel sauce and dried raspberries.

Designed by local chef Guy Greaves and team, the menu is said to pay “homage to the city it serves, pairing famed local products and dishes with cooking techniques inspired by the functions of a furnace – such as cooling, torching, flame-grilling and blowtorching.”

Announcing its opening, the new venue posted on Facebook: “Thank you for all of the incredible support you have shown us so far. We have enjoyed meeting each and every one of you.”

The Furnace appears to have made a good first impression, with the announcement generating more than 150 comments full of praise for the latest addition to Sheffield’s flourishing food and drink scene.
