Eating out in Yorkshire doesn’t get much better than this award-winning Indian Restaurant in Sheffield

This award-winning restaurant is not only a favourite of the famous around Sheffield but has also raised hundreds of thousands for a fantastic cause.

Whether you’re wanting to treat a deserving mum this Mothers’ Day, get the family together for Easter, book a romantic date night or any other special event, or just want to forget cooking and enjoy great food in relaxed surroundings then Prithiraj Restaurant is a fantastic choice.

Prithiraj Restaurant on Ecclesall Road – arguably the city’s best street for eating out – has been serving authentic Indian food for over 12 years.

The 100-seater restaurant combines a modern, stylish interior with a very traditional approach to its customers – great service and great food, where diners become regulars and regulars become friends.

It has won the West Side Curry Awards seven times – against competition from across South Yorkshire – and in 2022 it won the Yorkshire and the Humber section of the English Curry Awards.

Mingling with the stars

One such friend is TV presenter and former BBC broadcaster Dan Walker. He’s a well-known curry-lover who has dubbed the venue his ‘number one’ for Indian food. But one of his favourite dishes – chicken tikka, lamb mince and a boiled egg – wasn’t even on the menu, but Prithiraj were happy to make it for him and it’s now become a firm fixture on the menu as the Dan Walker curry.

And when Dan visited with his Strictly Come Dancing partner Nadiya, they honoured the pair with another curry – a Glitter Balti!

Sportswoman Jessica Ennis has dined there, and supported charity events and The Beast from The Chase, has been known to tuck into a curry on a regular basis.

They also have close links with Sheffield United, whose players are also regular customers. But, the owners say, all their customers old and new are given the same treatment- five stars, just like the hygiene rating!

Mercury prize and Brit Award nominated singer songwriter and guitarist Richard Hawley, who joined Pulp led by his friend Jarvis Cocker during his career, also recently called in to enjoy a meal at Prithiraj. So you never know who you will see there!

Charity nights

Every year for the past five years Prithiraj has opened its doors for a fundraising evening, and has so far raised over £200,000 for Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Last October alone it made £63,000. Money has gone towards buying much-needed equipment and even a helipad for the hospital.

Local businessman Dr Graham Royle, of chemical products company GRI Group, is a major sponsor and supporter of the charity nights.
