Dry January is over - 7 brilliant drinks made in Sheffield you can indulge in

Dry January is a month where many people choose to abstain from drinking alcohol either as a personal challenge or even as a means to raise money for charity. It’s growing in popularity with the number of participants growing year on year, though not all successfully complete the full 31 days.

Now that Dry January has passed, people will be returning to bars and pubs to enjoy a drink or two with friends. We thought it’d be great to list nine fantastic drinks made in Sheffield for people to indulge in this month.

Moonshine, Abbeydale Brewery

Abbeydale Brewery’s flagship pale ale. It accounts for 40 per cent of their output and has become a very popular beer locally. Moonshine is easiest to find locally, but the brewery supplies beer across the North of England and the Midlands.

A selection of Abbeydale Brewery cans can also be found in The Makers store in Meadowhall, along with some merchandise.

Glory Glory Aleluia, Emmanuales

Emmanuales have been brewing since their inception in 2014. This American Amber Ale is 5.5 per cent alcohol and made with more malts, cereals and hops “than you’d squeeze into Noah’s Ark”.

They produce a range of cans, bottles, cask and kegs and trade across Sheffield and the nation.

Farmers Stout, Bradfield Brewery

The Farmers Stout is brewed by Bradfield Brewery, who are based in S3. The brewery’s website describes it as “A dark enriched ‘black and white’ stout balanced by ploughing through roasted malts and flaked oats with a subtle bitter hop character”.

Bradfield Brewery also do seasonal range and their website says a “vanilla seasoned” verson of the Farmers Stout is also currently available. There are three pubs list on the website as great places to find Bradfield ales including, the Nags Head Inn, Loxley; King and Miller, Deepcar; and Wharncliffe Arms, Wharncliffe Side.

Orchard Gold, Fuggle Bunny Brew House

The Fuggle Bunny Brew House is an independent family run located in South East Sheffield, near Halfway. Orchard Gold is a golden ale, which is said to taste “smooth, zesty and earthy”. You can find Fuggle Bunny’s drinks at the Chapter ONE pub in Worksop, which was the brewery’s first venture into the pub business.

Chapter ONE even won the North Notts CAMRA pub of the Winter & Spring season in 2018. Fuggle also do carry outs so you can turn up “fill your boots” and walk away with some “luscious Fuggle Beer”.

Shire Horse, Little Critters Brewing Company

Shire Horse is an English Bitter cash ale by the Little Critters Brewing Company. The team behind this brew house started off making tasty beers in their kitchen at home, before moving into a unit in Kelham and officially getting the Little Critters Brewing Company off the ground.

Little Critters now has a strong team of dedicated brewers who are “passionate about making beer and try to retain the home brew spirit of experimentation and fun”

The Original Sheffield Lager, Stancill

Stancill’s website say this is the first lager to be developed and brewed “wholly in Sheffield”. The lager is said to have a “distinctly crisp taste”. Stancill have two pubs in Sheffield where you can grab a pint of this Sheffield lager, The Albion on London Road and The Closed Shop on Commonside.

Sheffield Dry Gin, True North Brew Co

Not everything on this list needs to be a beer of some kind. So now this is the Sheffield Dry Gin by the True North Brew Co, said to be “an intriguing blend of fennel, cardamom and gentian root creating a herbaceous character and smooth flavours”.

The True North Brew Co are, of course, widely known and popular throughout Sheffield and you can find their drinks at any of their venues.
