Is it safe for Costa to reopen for takeaway?

Costa has also revealed new social distancing and hygiene measures at its reopened stores in order to keep workers and customers safe.

“To keep our store teams and customers safe, we’ve made a lot of changes to how we serve our coffee, introducing social distancing and enhancing our hygiene procedures,” the customer notice explained.

What are the new rules for customers?

For customers looking to get their caffeine fix from Costa, there are some new rules you should be aware of that are being implemented in store.

For takeaway orders, you’ll need to look out for and follow the floor signs that indicate safe, two metre distancing. These signs will be found both inside and outside of the store. You’ll be called up to the counter to order, one customer at a time, and a member of the team will greet you from behind a perspex screen. Your order will be then collected from the counter.

A hand sanitiser station has also been placed near every store entrance for customers to use.

Customers cannot sit in the cafes, and payments must be cashless and contactless.

For drive-thru orders, the lanes will be open as usual. To support social distancing, you’ll see that a new extendable shelf has been installed, which allows for baristas to pass you your order with no contact.

How to check if your local branch is open

To check if your local branch is opening for drive-thru or takeaway, you can use the Costa store locator tool.

You can let the tool use your current location to search for branches, or you can enter your location manually.

The Costa map will then show you all available Costa machines in supermarkets, express stores and drive-thru stores.

As part of the process of reopening stores, Costa wants to keep supporting “everyone who’s keeping the country moving”.

Costa said: “Over the past week we have delivered another hundred thousand Ready-to-Drink Costa Coffee cans to key workers, providing a well deserved coffee break to those working in hospitals, police and fire stations and NHS call centres, to name a few.”
