'Best restaurant in Sheffield' bids farewell to city after more than 20 years

Marco Giove, who runs the Italian restaurant Marco At Milano in Millhouses announced the sad news on Facebook, telling customers it was a ‘massive GRAZIE from me and all the staff for all your support over the last 21 years.

More than 300 people have commented, with many expressing their disappointment at the loss of what they called the ‘best restaurant in Sheffield’, while wishing Marco and his staff all the best for the future.

Marco said a a takeaway service called marco@milano (a casa tua) would be launching from a kitchen just across the road at Hazel’s Quality Catering, with collections from the same Millhouses Park garage forecourt opposite the restaurant.

As for the future of the listed former police station on Archer Road, The Old Park Lodge, he said it would soon house a new seafood restaurant called Neon Fish, hosted by Gracie Anderson and Sheffield-born Cary Brown.

Announcing the news, Marco said: “After a lot of consideration and soul searching I’m really sorry to announce that I’ve decided not to reopen the restaurant.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive GRAZIE from me and all the staff for all your support over the last 21 years.

"It’s been a real pleasure and we will truly miss you all.”

He added: “I’m truly overwhelmed by all the lovely heart-filled messages from everyone – customers, friends, ex-work colleagues, fellow restaurateurs and family.

“We would have loved to still be open and give everyone the opportunity to have dined one final time in the restaurant and in turn give me, my family and all my staff the pleasure of saying thank you in person to each and every one of you.”

He also revealed that his cousin Roberto, also known as Roby, would soon be opening a coffee shop and Italian deli called Caffe Za Za, on Abbeydale Road, adding ‘I’m sure he would love you to go and have a coffee with him’.
