There have been lengthy waits to book deliveries from shops like Morrisons, Tesco and Asda, while stories including Iceland are temporarily limiting website orders to customers over state pension age, those who are self-isolating and other vulnerable groups, such as the disabled.

Whether people want to buy fruit and vegetables, meat packs or staples like pasta and beans, there are some alternative food delivery services across Sheffield that are well worth trying.

City Grab

This is an app run by City Taxis, Sheffield’s biggest cab firm with 1,500 drivers. Food businesses that operate on the app include Proove Pizza, Ranmoor Friery, Proud Potato, Little Snack Bar, Our Cow Molly and Roses The Bakers. It is effectively a local rival to Deliveroo – customers pay the taxi fare on top of the food bill.

Beanies Wholefoods

Beanies, at Crookesmoor, is continuing to deliver its popular veg boxes – which can also contain fruit – even while its shop on the corner of Barber Road and Crookes Valley Road is closed. Prices range from £12 to £16 including delivery. See www.beanieswholefoods.co.uk
