Adopting a dog provides an abandoned dog with a new home

With a mission statement to ‘help a dog in need’, this charity prioritises the care of the animals before the needs and desires of any potential new owner.

Due to a large number of its dogs being strays, it does not rehome older dogs to homes with young children and you must allow for a home visit by a member of staff before an adoption can be completed.

Adoption will cost £150 for an unknown breed (mongrel) and £300 for a pedigree dog.

This covers the costs of spaying/neutering, first vaccinations, a microchip and a fleaing and worming treatment before you take your new companion home.

To view dogs and register an interest, view available animals on their rehoming page.

Doris Banham Dog Rescue

744 Chesterfield Rd, Woodseats, Sheffield S8 0SE

This rehoming service has won awards for its caring and professional service, rehoming many dogs who have become stray or come from abusive and exploitative backgrounds.

Due to this, the charity has very little background knowledge of the animals in its care and asks that you read its full rehoming policy before enquiring.

If you feel that you can accommodate one of the dog’s needs, you can enquire about adopting by contacting the charity’s manager, Lorna, on 07984 143 253 where you will be asked about your circumstances.

Upon successful application, you will visit the dog and then the dog will visit your home.

Adoption fees are £150 for all dogs.

Mill House Animal Sanctuary

West Yorkshire Dog Rescue

1 Regent Gardens, Cubley, Penistone, Sheffield S36 6DT

This charity runs on a completely voluntary basis and prides itself on prioritising dogs’ welfare and rehoming them with their ideal companion.

The site does not have a large number of dogs at the moment, but rehomes around 250 dogs per year,

Instead of visiting the dogs at a kennel, the dogs are rehomed with foster carers until a suitable new owner is found. Therefore, any visits prior to successful adoption take place at the foster carer’s home.

To register interest for one of the dogs available through the rescue service, fill out the application form.

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary

The Stables, Todwick Rd, North Anston, Sheffield S25 3SE

Should you find a pet you would like to adopt, you are required to fill out an application form to begin the process.
