The Moor in Sheffield is going to be alive with people over the age of 50 next month when a one day festival is staged to highlight all the activities available in the city for older people.

Sheffield 50+ Network is celebrating the older members of society on October 1 - the UN International Day of Older Persons - by showcasing the activities and opportunities available.

From 11am until 3pm there will be ballroom dancing, salsa and music on The Moor.

There will also be ping pong tables, a giant chess board, art demonstrations, antiques, smoothie making and iPad taster sessions.

Bridget Evans, director of Sheffield 50+ Network, said: “It’s going to be so much fun.

“Right from the start we have planned this to be a real celebration and to show everyone all the different activities that we take part in.

“Our motto is ‘I’m not old’ because after all age is just a number.

“We’re using this opportunity to launch our new Sheffield 50+ website on the day. The website will be a one-stop-shop for information that someone aged over 50 in Sheffield might need. From cycle clubs and other interests to where to find advice on care or how to meet new friends.”
