Red’s True Barbecue, Ecclesall Road, first offered a cashless payment to diners as a way of tipping waiters earlier this month.

The system the restaurant is using, TiPJAR, was founded by former High Storr's Student James Brown.

James, of Hunters Bar, said: “We’ve always admired Red’s because of their unwavering focus on quality and innovation, from their incredible BBQ to the way they run their restaurants.

“TiPJAR could not be a better fit for Red’s or for Sheffield. I am really chuffed to bring TiPJAR to my home-town.”

With TiPJAR, the staff at Red’s can now allow their customers to tip them directly and transparently with just the simple scan of a QR code.

The platform allows for tipped workers to manage, receive and share their own tips, and also works seamlessly with new tipping legislation announced in the Queen’s Speech.

Last month, the Queen confirmed a new bill that will force employers to hand over all tips to staff. Currently, UK businesses are not legally required to hand over tips to staff.
