Sheffield Greggs store temporarily shuts - and leaves this message in the window

Fans of Festive Bakes, sausage rolls and pasties looking for a bite to eat on a Sheffield shopping street face grave disappointment – as a city centre Greggs has had to close at short notice.

A sign in the window of the chain’s bakery on The Moor explained: “We’re sorry but we’ve had to temporarily close our store for essential maintenance. We’ll be open again shortly. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

The shutters were down, and stools were stacked on tables inside, but the lights in the shop had been left switched on.

Greggs has been approached for comment. In October the place shut in similar circumstances – on that occasion a notice said the closure was down to ‘IT issues’.

Greggs’ Festive Bake – chicken, stuffing and bacon with sage and cranberry sauce, encased in pastry with a ‘crunchy crumb’ topping – is so successful it is believed to be underpinning the firm’s growing sales.
