Some of Sheffield’s finest food traders – along with new openings for the city – have been brought together in an ambitious development that officially opens to the public tomorrow.

Kommune, in the old Castle House near Castlegate, breathes new life into the historic building as well as that part of the city centre as part of tech hub Kollider.

It opens to the public tomorrow, Friday March 22, but The Star had a sneak preview at the launch event this evening.

There's seating for groups and solo diners to enjoy a lunch break, as well as a fresh view of this part of the city centre. Kommune will open from 9am until late.

Jules Gray of Hop Hideout has a beer or wine for every occasion - whether they go home with you or are tasted on site. And they can be matched with other trader's dishes too Jules said Kommune was on the "beer trail" to Kelham.
Experienced chefs from JH Mann fishmongers on Sharrowvale Road have opened a restaurant at Kommune, serving stylish seafood. There is also Korean soul food from Yoki in Crookes, coffee from Tamper and pastries from Depot

Stuart Monypenny from MorMor cooks up a mixture of Middle Eastern, North African and Mediterranean street food - with a focus on healthy dishes. He crossed the border from Leeds after attending Peddler.
Plant based favourite Pom Kitchen of Sharrowvale Road has a beautiful living jungle style unit at Kommune
The Department of Drinks wraps around the building's central staircase and stocks Freedom brewery beer, a carefully selected wine list and cocktails
Soak up some culture at The Viewing Room, showcasing pop, urban and contemporary art
La Biblioteka is a specialist magazine, book and printing shop and will host other pop ups in the future
More than a year's work has gone into Kommune, evident in the detail of everything from the engraved table logos to the funky signage. Guests at the opening said it reminded them of similar projects around the country - and NYC
