WORK to transform the public record office and local studies library of Derbyshire has been completed at a cost of £4 million.

John Beckett, a professor of English regional history, will relaunch the centre on New Street, Matlock, on Tuesday.

The refurbished building brings a wealth of historic resources together under one roof.

The building houses more than five miles of historic documents – some dating back nearly 800 years – with storage for a further three miles of shelving.
